JEE Main Counselling takes place every year. Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) conducts the JEE Main counselling process. The candidates who secure an All India Rank (AIR) can register themselves for the seat allocation process through the official website (www.jeemain.nic.in). Once the seat allocation process is over, the candidates have to show up at the reporting centres along with the prescribed documents. The important documents you need during JEE Main Counselling are below.
The verification of documents follows after the process of the seat allocation process. You must need to carry the original documents along with the scorecard and admit card of JEE Main to the reporting centre. As per the official notification by CSAB, below are the documents that you must carry on the day of reporting:

- Proof of Identity (Any one of these- Aadhar Card/ PAN Card/ Voter ID Card/
Driving License/ Passport)
- Class 12th Certificate & Mark-sheet
- Class 10th Certificate (As Date of Birth Proof)
- Category Certificate (To avail reservation)
- PwD Certificate (if applicable)
- JEE Main Score Card
- JEE Main Admit Card
- Passport Size Photographs
- Provisional Admission Letter
How to know the number of seats in various institutions?
As of now, the number of seats has not been disclosed in the official brochure by CSAB. For any admission related query, you can access the official website of JoSAA or you can also check out our updates from time-to-time.
Who can appear for the Document Verification Process?
After Seat Allocation & Payment for Seat Confirmation: You will be called for the verification process after you have been allocated a seat in one of the participating technical institutes and your payment transaction is confirmed.
Candidates possessing Provisional Admission Letter: You will get a provisional admission letter by the conducting board after successful payment and seat confirmation. Those candidates who do not bring it to the reporting centre must be ineligible for the admission process.
Candidates possessing prescribed original documents: You will have to produce
the original copies of all the documents in order to proceed with the admission
What if you do not bring the documents during JEE Main Counselling?
A candidate must carry the aforementioned original documents to the reporting centre on the day of verification. If he/she fails to bring the prescribed documents, his or her candidature will be cancelled. Thus, the qualified candidate will lose his or her seat to another deserving candidate.
About JEE Main Counselling
The official notification reveals that there will be 3 counselling processes in JEE Main – JoSAA, CSAB NEUT, and CSAB SFTI. Around 100 technical institutes will be participating in Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) Counselling. These includes 23 IITs, 23 IIITs, 31 NITs & 23 Government funded colleges.
Summary of Counselling Procedure
Online Registration: If you have attained an AIR in JEE Main, you get to register yourself for choice filling online.
Choice Filling & Locking: Next, you select the college and course of your choice and need to confirm it before the closing date.
Seat Allocation: You can get birth in one of the technical institutes based on certain parameters which are as follows:
- AIR in JEE Main Rank List
- The priority order of choices made for college & course
- Availability of seats under seat quotas
Payment for Seat Confirmation: After you are allocated a seat in the course & college of your choice, you pay the fee to freeze (confirm) your seat.
Issuance of Provisional Admission Letter: After successful payment, you receive the ‘provisional admission letter’ by the conducting authority and called up for the document verification process.
Document Verification: Here we recommend you to carry all original documents to the reporting centre.
Reservation of Seats
Seats reserved can be availed only upon producing the original caste certificate at the time of document verification process. In addition to it, admission to NITs/ IITs and CFTIs shall only be provided to categories mentioned in the central list released by Govt. of India. For admission to State engineering colleges, the reservation of seats will take place on state quota.
