Written Test must after TET for UP Teachers – Read Why ?

The Yogi Govt of Uttar Pradesh has taken a new decision regarding the teachers. As per this decision, now Written Test shall be compulsory after the TET ( Teachers’ Eligibility Test) to become assistant teachers in the state. Now the govt will not do the direct recruitment of the TET candidates. They will have to undergo a Written Test. When preparing a Merit List, the marks of Written test shall also be added.

The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by the CM Yogi. It is the shocking fact that the country has the acute shortage of teachers. There are around 9 million teachers with 130+ crore population. And the largest state has around 12.4 lakh teachers working in various capacities ( as per the report by HRD Ministry).

So far the candidates who wished to become teachers needed to clear UPTET. After getting the TET certificate, they would become eligible for direct recruitment. There was no further test. But now the govt has made the selection procedure a bit tougher. There are some states besides UP, which conduct written test for the candidates after the TET. These states are Haryana, Punjab etc.

Sri Kant Sharma, the minister in the UP Cabinet told the reporters that the prime motive of the govt is to ensure qualitative education for the children. He said that from now Written Test is must after Teachers’ Eligibility Test in the state.

The final merit shall carry the aggregated marks of TET and the Screening Test. The govt shall appoint Basic Teachers via written test. According to him, the govt shall consider 60 marks for the written test and 40 marks for the educational eligibility.

So it is clear that becoming a teacher in UP has become a bit tougher. Some candidates have expressed anguish over this decision. They say that the candidates will complete their education first of all. Then they would clear TET. After that they will have to face Written Test. It is quite discouraging for the unemployed youth.

However, some people are agree with the decision saying that it will improve the standard of education in the state. According to them, there is very poor standard of education in the govt schools in the state. So they see it a wise decision of the Yogi Govt.
