New Ruling about becoming Assistant Professors in Colleges / Universities – PhD Mandatory
Getting jobs of teachers will go tougher in the near future. So far they have just to do Post Graduation in any of the subjects and the minimum qualification is NET ( National Eligibility Test ). Without PhD, it will be a distant dream to be an Assistant Professor. Besides, the concerned body has attached one more condition for getting job and i.e. Induction Programme.
The adding responsibility is that the would- be assistant professor will have to spend at least 2 hours for Community Development Extra Activity related suggestions. The decisions has been taken by HRD ( Human Resource Department ). The action is meant to be mandatory to enhance the standard of education. The Ministry believes that PhD holders will bring revolutionary change in the contemporary education system. However, the ministry has fixed some time i.e. 2021.
Universities from where the aspirants can pursue their Research Degree –
It is better to check if the university from where you think to take the degree has the authority. The degrees holders of 500 universities / colleges ranked by QS, the Times Higher Education, or the Academic Ranking of World Universities of Shanghai will directly be recruited. However, Delhi
University will not have this privilege to recruit directly. Before thinking to get the job of assistant professors, the candidates will have to clear NET.
HRD has followed the decisions of Seventh Pay Commission. This decision has made the process of recruiting a teacher quite longer.
Views of Different people on this decision –
Educationists say that it is good decision. The future teachers will have to undergo research work by writing a thesis . This process will make them knowledgeable. Clearing NET is not touch-stone of judging the knowledge of the candidates. With some hard work and coaching, many students clear this test. NET doesn’t add knowledge to theirs as it is only a qualifying test. Some times luck also matters in many cases.
