The HRD Ministry and Ayush Ministry have made it compulsory for all CBSE affiliated schools to start the Yoga Classes for all the students from 1st to 12th.
From the classes from 1st to 10th the students will be engaged in the Physical exercises by having one or two periods of Physical Activity. On the other hand for the students for 10+1 and 10+2, it will be imperative to do yoga for two hours a week. It is worth-mentioning that in some schools, yoga is still compulsory.
This information was given in a written reply by Ayush Minister SY Naik. He informed the Upper House that the yoga has been made compulsory in all the schools affiliated to CBSE to ensure the Physical and Mental Fitness of the students. He also apprised the House of the fact that the Yoga has been an essential part of National Council of Teacher Education.
Yoga in CBSE Schools
It means the candidates who have to do degree or diploma in education will have to compulsorily read about yoga so that they may transfer that to the students. For the candidates doing elementary courses are also to read about yoga which is a part of their course curriculum.
It is well-known that yoga is a favorite agenda for the Modi Govt. In June International Day for Yoga was celebrated all over the world. PM had his active role in that big event. Some Muslim Organizations had opposed to that. But on the whole it was a successful organization.
The BJP Ruled states have already made plans for including yoga in the state education system. The process of appointing the Yoga Teachers has also begun in some states like Haryana. As a result, the demand of Yoga related courses has increased a lot. Besides the schools, private yoga teachers are in great demand these days.
