Scope of Textile Designing –

Textile Designers are in great demand in India. With the increase in population and also increase in the purchasing powers, the Textile Industry is growing by leaps and bounds. The Textile Designers are expected to do  a variety of works such as weaving, knitting, processing to create innovations in their products. These products include fabrics, carpets etc.

There are various sectors where Textile Designers are in big demands. Some of these are –

Hand-loom Industry, Textile Industry ( Domestic and Export ), Crafts Industry, Manufacturing Industry etc. Here you shall get the opportunity to work with fashion designers, interior designers to create unique and exotic designs and patterns.

But for getting jobs in this sector, you need more experience than just acquiring the degree or diploma. So it is imperative for you to earn some experience before applying for jobs.

Your local experience at some small industries of your city and at college level will do much. Participate in the exhibitions arranged by some local organizations.

Salary for the Textile Designers –

There is a decent salary for the starters. In a good company/ industry, you can expect Rs Five to Six lac in the beginning. Later with the experience, it may go up in seven figures. So experience and innovation matters a lot in getting jobs and good salaries.

Courses in Textile Designing –

  1. Diploma in Textile Designing ( Polytechnic ) – Duration is 3 years.
  2. BE/ B.Tech – This is 4 years’ degree course. You can do it from any of the good technical institutes or colleges.
  3. B.Sc in Textile Designing – Three Year
  4. B.Sc Textile Technology – Three Year
  5. Bachelor of Textile Design – Three Year

Educational Qualification for Degree and Diploma –

For both the degree and diploma, the aspirants must pass 10+2 with Physics/ Chemistry/ Math . The admission takes place on entrance basis.

After the degree courses, the candidates can go for the Master’s. It shall be good to grab jobs in the educational institutes/ colleges where such courses are offered.
